The ACC Guru
Week 7 Game Picks

Somehow, it's already week 7, which means we're halfway though the college football season 😥 Week 6 brought us a few big moments, with North Carolina taking control of the Coastal division, NC State holding on against FSU without Leary, and Georgia Tech winning their 2nd consecutive game since firing Geoff Collins. My picks; however, we're not very good last week. Time to bounce back.
Week 7 only has 4 games on the schedule, but there are 2 huge ones on the Atlantic side in Syracuse, NY and Tallahassee, FL. Outside of the ACC, there are 2 top-ten matchups, plus plenty of other big games. Should be a fun Saturday.
Woodrow's Winners made up 2 games on me last week, which means we're now tied on the season. We're guaranteed to break that tie this week, because we only differ on 1 pick which has a half-point in the spread.
Last Week:
ACC Guru: 2-5
Woodrow’s Winners: 4-3
Season Total:
ACC Guru: 29-32
Woodrow’s Winners: 29-32
Miami at Virginia Tech (+7) 12:30 PM RSN
ACC Guru: Both of these teams looked better last week than they did the previous few weeks, but where was the rushing defense Hokies?? 320 yards and 6 TDs to Abanikanda! WOW! Miami doesn’t run the ball as well as Pitt, but I expect the Hokie D to overcompensate and allow a little more through the air this week to Van Dyke, who looked to get out of his funk against Carolina. Miami covers on the road.
Woodrow's Winners: Tech stinks…they’re getting better, but defensively they are in shambles. A defense that porous with an offense that can’t compete is a bad recipe. Nooner in Blacksburg helps, but can’t pull the trigger on Hokies at this point in time. Miami.
NC State at Syracuse (-3.5) 3:30 PM ACCN
ACC Guru: Devin Leary is questionable to play this week, but even if we knew he was going to be out, I have no idea why Syracuse is favored in this game. I know they’re undefeated, and I know they’re at home, but NC State is a much better football team. Jack Chambers looked solid enough when he came in for NC State to be able to rely on their running game and defense to win games, and he had plenty of success at the FCS level at Charleston Southern. Meanwhile, Syracuse’s best win was a weird game against Purdue where their defense kept them in it long enough for a crazy 4th quarter than happened to bounce the Orange’s way, and the last ACC team that came to the Dome was a bad Virginia team that should have beaten them. NC State wins outright.
Woodrow's Winners: Cuse in the dome. Cuse in the dome. Cuse in the dome. Don’t over think this. SYRACUSE.
Clemson at Florida State (+3.5) 7:30 PM ABC
ACC Guru: I’m glad Vegas is still giving credit to this FSU team even though they’ve lost 2 games in a row. It’s going to be 3 after Saturday, but they’re still a good football team. DJ Uiagalelei is back to playing at the level we thought he would last year. He’s probably the favorite to win ACC POY and should be in the Heisman discussion now. I think FSU keeps this one competitive, but Clemson ends up winning by about 10.
Woodrow's Winners: Why is this line like this? What do I not know. This seems too good to be true. I want to fade myself here and go FSU but I just can’t in good conscience do that. I’m not sold on this Clemson team but they’re good enough to run the table and make the playoff. Touchdown+ winners.
North Carolina at Duke (+7) 8 PM ACCN
ACC Guru: Well Duke, your little run was nice, but a loss to Georgia Tech really stings (pun intended); however, a win this week and you’re tied for first in the Coastal. I just don’t see that happening. I was leaning towards UNC covering anyway, but then the Heels revealed what helmets they’re wearing this week.
Carolina by a million in the chrome helmets
Woodrow's Winners: Duke is fading while Carolina is getting strong. Similar feel here to the FSU/Clemson game in Vegas knows something…but the Wildman knows more. Carolina with ease.
