Week 3 Game Picks

We did a little bit better last week, but we're both still sitting below .500 on the year. We've now seen at least 2 games from every team, so hopefully we have a better feel for the teams now. Another 12 game slate up for Week 3.

Last Week:

ACC Guru: 6-6

Woodrow's Winners: 5-7

Season Total:

ACC Guru: 11-13

Woodrow's Winners: 9-15

Florida State at Louisville (+2.5)- Friday 7:30 PM ESPN

Woodrow's Winners- Louisville picked up a good win last week against UCF and FSU got their marquee win against LSU and were rewarded with a bye week. I don’t know if either of these teams are any good but give me the Noles by a FG.

ACC Guru- So, both of these teams have good road wins against LSU (FSU) and UCF (Louisville), but I think both of those teams are having a down year. So, I also don't know if either of these teams are good. I expect them both to be middle of the pack in the ACC, but here's a great opportunity to get in the upper level of the Atlantic. I'm going with FSU.

Wofford at Virginia Tech (-36)- Saturday 11 AM ACCN

Woodrow's Winners- 36 points is a lot for this Hokies offense at present but the defense looks to be a vintage 2000s squad early on (but depth issues will take their toll throughout the season). I don’t trust their offense and Wofford finds a way to score a time or two. Terriers cover in the Mike Young Bowl.

ACC Guru- I agree with WW. I expect the Hokies defense to completely shut down Wofford, but I don't think they can score 36 points, let alone cover it. Especially with a morning kickoff. Hokies win comfortably, but Wofford covers.

Purdue at Syracuse (EVEN)- Saturday 12 PM ESPN2

Woodrow's Winners- Uhhhhhh. I have no clue here. Give me Purdue I guess.

ACC Guru- I think I have a clue. Syracuse's defense is pretty good. And the offense looks great so far under new OC Robert Anae. I think the Orange get it done in the Dome.

Old Dominion at Virginia (-9.5)- Saturday 2 PM ACCN

Woodrow's Winners- UVA kinda stinks! And #IStandWithHudson

ACC Guru- While I was disappointed to see the news on Hudson, I don't think it will make a difference in the game. There's no way that UVA's offense is as bad as it was last week. If their defense can play like they did against Illinois, this shouldn't be much of a game. ODU has already had their big upset. Hoos cover.

Ole Miss at Georgia Tech (+16)- Saturday 3:30 PM ABC

Woodrow's Winners- this is a very interesting line. And GT to cover two scores at home is very appetizing against an Ole Miss team facing their first true challenge. I don’t think the Jackets are that bad. They lose, but cover.

ACC Guru- I do still think that the Jackets aren't very good, and we know that Lane Kiffin teams can put up some points. I think Ole Miss rolls into Atlanta and easily covers the 16 points.

Liberty at Wake Forest (-16.5)- Saturday 5 PM ACCN

Woodrow's Winners- Wake until further notice. They will score a billion and win something like 49-28.

ACC Guru- YUP. Vegas hasn't caught up with Wake yet. They should win by 20+ even if they manage to give up a few touchdowns along the way.

NC A&T at Duke (-29.5)- Saturday 6 PM ESPN+

Woodrow's Winners- Duke went on the road and won the Nerd Bowl. They come back home and sleep through this one. Give me A&T.

ACC Guru- I disagree. I think Mike Elko will have the boys focused and fired up. Wallace Wade Outdoor Stadium is sold out for the first time in forever and I think the Blue Devils will roll. If they can beat Temple by 30, they should be able to beat NC A&T by at least that.

Texas Tech at NC State (-10)- Saturday 7 PM ESPN2

Woodrow's Winners- NC State has shaken the rust off. I think they are really good and cover here quite comfortably.

ACC Guru- I think Vegas set this number at 10 to try to bait people into picking Texas Tech and it seems to be working. The public saw NC State struggle with ECU and just watched Texas Tech beat a good Houston team, but that was probably the best game TT will play all year. The Wolfpack got things figured out last week and they take this one by 2 TDs.

Pitt (-10) at Western Michigan- Saturday 7:30 PM ESPNU

Woodrow's Winners- Last season WMU went to Pitt and smacked them around and I think Narduzzi will remind his boys if that this week. I think Pitt struggles in this one. WMU at home.

ACC Guru- I really don't know where to go with this one because of the Slovis injury. Pat Narduzzi is giving us nothing, and apparently it's going to be a game-time decision. I'm going to guess that he plays and Pitt gets revenge for last year, and I get to fade WW.

Maine at Boston College (-29.5)- Saturday 7:30 PM ESPN3

Woodrow's Winners- BC stinks! Maine is usually some what pesky. Give me the Black Bears!

ACC Guru- BC can't be this bad, right? I don't think so. But I do think that this line is too high. BC wins, but Maine keeps it within 30.

Louisiana Tech at Clemson (-34)- Saturday 8 PM ACCN

Woodrow's Winners- Clemson rolls but I’m still very worried about that offense. I’ll take the Bulldogs.

ACC Guru- I know that a gambling column isn't the place for this, but I've been thinking about it all day. My thoughts and prayers are with the Bresee Family today as Clemson DT Brian Bresee announced that his 15 year old sister lost her battle with brain cancer this morning. Just terribly saddening news.

On the less serious, football side of things, I think Clemson easily handles LT, but I also don't think they have enough offense to cover the 34.

Miami (+5.5) at Texas A&M- Saturday 9 PM ESPN

Woodrow's Winners- This is the rattiest of all rat lines. everyone and their mom will be on Miami here. Aggies bounce back.

ACC Guru- I guess I'm riding with my Momma on this one. Yes, Miami struggled in the first half vs Southern Miss, but I think they were already looking towards this game and as we've seen, the Sun Belt is pretty good. Give me the Canes, and I think they win outright.
