2021-2022 ACC Awards

Before the official awards and All-ACC teams are released later this morning, I wanted to share what my ballot would have looked like.

Player of the Year- Alondes Williams, Wake Forest

Williams became the first ever player in the ACC to lead the league in both scoring and assists in the same year, and did it in his first year in the league. Bacot and Banchero both deserve consideration here, but my vote has to go to Williams.

Defensive Player of the Year- Reece Beekman, Virginia

This has been a 2 man race for most of the year between Beekman and Mark Williams. Beekman led the conference in steals, while Williams led the league in blocks, but I'm going with Beekman because of his ability to shut down the opposing team's best player 1-3.

Freshman of the Year- Paolo Banchero, Duke

Blake Wesley made this a closer race than I thought anyone would, but the Freshman of the Year has to go to the only Freshman that's going to make All-ACC.

Coach of the Year- Steve Forbes, Wake Forest

This award might be more contentious than Player of the Year this season because Forbes, Coach K, Larranaga, and Brey are all deserving of the award; however, I'm going with Forbes. Wake Forest went from 3 ACC wins last year to 13 this year after being selected to finish 13th in the preseason polls.

6th Man of the Year- Matthew Cleveland, Florida State

I know he's had to start games recently due to injury, but if he's still eligible for this award, he deserves it.

Most Improved Player- Dereon Seabron, NC State

Seabron went from averaging 5.2 PPG, 3.5 RPG, and 0.8 APG last year to 17.3 PPG, 8 RPG, and 3.1 APG this year. This one is a no-brainer.
